We are pleased to announce the seven recipients of the Growing Urban Forests in the Face of Emerald Ash Borer grant program. This program supports tree planting, reforestation efforts, and the enhancement of municipal tree nurseries in consideration of the impact of the invasive emerald ash borer (EAB) on all species of native ash trees.
With special funding from the US Forest Service, this competitive grant opportunity will support resilient urban and community forests specifically focused on Vermont's most populated areas. This funding is intended for municipalities in a U.S. Census-defined urban area or urban cluster that are prepared to plant trees to offset the loss of public ash trees due to EAB.
UCF will be awarding just over $60,000 to the following grant recipients:
- The Town of Middlebury
- The City of Montpelier
- The Town of Northfield
- The City of Rutland
- The City of South Burlington
- The Town of Williston
- The City of Winooski
Congratulations to the grant recipients and stay tuned for updates on their projects and tree planting efforts!
