Each spring, the Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program partners with Horsford Gardens & Nursery in Charlotte to offer free trees to schools. This program is limited to Chittenden and Addison counties. Up to 10 schools are eligible for one tree each.
2026 Guidelines and Application
Horsford Gardens and Nursery is generously offering free trees to schools in Addison and Chittenden County to celebrate Arbor Day.
- All schools in Addison and Chittenden counties are eligible.
- Maximum 1 tree per school.
- Applications are due by 5pm on April 15th
- Schools must commit to:
- pick up the tree from Horsford Gardens and Nursery during open hours April 26-May 1.
- plant the tree on school grounds as a way to celebrate Arbor Day
- care for the tree, including watering throughout the growing season for at least the first two years.
