This year for the first time ever, the Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program (VT UCF) and Advisory Council will host an Arborist Day of Service for tree care professionals. This event is being coordinated in partnership with Vermont State Parks.  

Event Goals

The Arborist Day of Service will be a volunteer opportunity for tree care professionals to bring their arboricultural skills to prune trees at Little River State Park in Waterbury, Vermont. The goals of the event are to:

  • Prune 10-20 trees for structure and safety at a high use public area.
  • Connect practicing tree care professionals across the state through a day of service and collaboration.
  • Draw attention to the importance of proper tree care and arboriculture in Vermont. 

Who Should Attend

This event is exclusively for professional arborists and tree care professionals.

Event Details

  • Friday, October 17th, 2025 from 8:00 - 2:00pm at Little River State Park (3444 Little River Road, Waterbury).  
  • Participants must arrive for 8am safety meeting and work plan briefing.

Work Plan

  • Primary focus: Prune 9 trees (25–50 feet tall) suffering from mower and string trimmer damage, deadwood, and poor structure. Trees will be pruned and mulched.
  • Additional tasks as time allows: Crown cleaning for 10 white pines.

What to Bring

  • Participants should plan to bring all gear normally used to perform arboricultural work, including PPE, tools, climbing gear, lifts, bucket trucks, and chippers.
  • Little River State Park will be closed to the public, but bathrooms will be available.  
  • Bring your own lunch and water or Lunch will be provided?
  • VT UCF will provide light refreshments and event swag. 

Professional Credits

  • ISA CEUs have been requested for the event; availability and quantity TBA.
  • A press release ahead of the event will invite news outlets to attend and publicize the good work accomplished.
