The Forest Ecosystem Monitoring Cooperative (FEMC) is hosting its annual conference as a hybrid event with opportunity to attend either online or in-person on December 16-17, 2021.
Our theme this year is: Facing Change: Reimagining forested communities in a time of disruption.
Our forests and communities are experiencing a wide variety of disruptions and disturbance - from the impacts of forest pests, ungulate browse, and climate change, to the indirect outcomes experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic on forest-based recreation, forest fragmentation, and changing community composition. The 2021 FEMC Conference will explore a range of disturbances and disruptions, identify monitoring that can help us understand the response of the forest ecosystems, and learn about tools and resources available to help communities go from surviving to thriving during this time of change.
This year, the Annual Conference is being planned as a hybrid event with opportunities to engage both online and in-person. We welcome everyone to attend in person, but recognize the many challenges of traveling to Burlington in the winter, especially under the uncertain circumstances of the continuing pandemic. Our online attendees will be able to participate in most events, including the plenary, contributed talks, and poster sessions. Not all working group sessions will be available online, but we hope to include some options. We look forward to connecting with our community, and hope you will join us to share your experiences and research findings as we learn from each other and plan for the future of our northeastern forested ecosystems.
